Hollywood

Hollywood is a neighborhood in Los Angeles, California - situated west-northwest of Downtown Los Angeles. Due to its fame and cultural identity as the historical center of movie studios and movie stars, the word "Hollywood" is often used as a metonymy of American cinema, and is often interchangeably used to refer to the greater Los Angeles area in general. The nicknames StarStruck Town and Tinseltown refer to Hollywood and its movie industry. Today, much of the movie industry has dispersed into surrounding areas such as the Westside neighborhood, but significant auxiliary industries, such as editing, effects, props, post-production and lighting companies remain in Hollywood, as does the backlot of Paramount Pictures. Many historic Hollywood theaters are used as venues and concert stages to premiere major theatrical releases and host the Academy Awards. It is a popular destination for nightlife, tourism, and is home to the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

In 1853, one adobe hut stood in the place, that later became Hollywood. By 1870, an agricultural community flourished in the area with thriving crops of many common and exotic varieties. Hot in Hollywood etymology says that the name "Hollywood" comes from the rich reserves of native toyon or "California Holly", which covers the slopes by the clusters of berries every winter.

Demographic Changes - Overpopulation

The surge in population is both a cause of the changed relationship and one of the clearest illustrations of how startling the change has been, especially when viewed in a historical context. From the emergence of modern humans 200,000 years ago until Julius Caesar's time, fewer than 250 million people walked on the face of the earth. When Christopher Columbus set sail for the New World 1,500 years later, there were approximately 500 million people on earth. By the time Thomas Jefferson wrote the Declaration of Independence in 1776, the number had doubled again, to I billion. By midway through this century, at the end of World War II, the number had risen to just above 2 billion people.

dpmmoretagstubIn Other words, from the beginning of humanity's appearance on earth to 1945, it took more than ten thousand generations to reach a world population of 2 billion people. Now, in the course of one human lifetime - mine - the world population will increase from 2 to more than 9 billion, and it is already more than halfway there.

Though a satellite of Earth, the Moon is bigger than Pluto. Some scientists think of it as a planet (four other moons in our solar system are even bigger). There are various theories about how the Moon was created, but recent evidence indicates it formed when a huge collision tore a chunk of the Earth away. Because it takes 27.3 days both to rotate on its axis and to orbit Earth, the Moon always shows us the same face.

I think that no one could describe the future without robots (and particularly - androids), if they were asked to. And this is clear, cause even now we can see production prototypes, that demonstrate the achievements of scientists and engineers in this field.

And although, there are still a lot of problems to be resolved, I think we can already say with confidence that in the next 20 years better and cheaper technologies will appear in this field, that will lead to the creation of a market of robots of different functional purpose and difficulty level. This means that the androids (and other robots) will live and work among us, entertaining us and helping us in our everyday physical and intellectual labor.

Like in the American cartoon “Futurama” that shows the Earth in 3000 year. People and robots live there jointly. Of course, it’s just a fable, and robots there are kind of animated (they really have soul or mind, like people), but it’s really interesting point, cause sometimes, in the cartoon, they sort of overact and put themselves on the same level with people or even higher. It can really lead to thinking that robots will rule the world!

Sooner or later, robots will become an integral part of our everyday life, like computers or mobile phones. On the other hand, the level of development of robots depends on perfection in areas such as, for example, human speech recognition or artificial intelligence, and they have not had significant progress for several years. Until the experts of this field will not find a new paradigm, robots won’t learn to perform complex integrated actions. But to bring slippers or to vacuum the room – they can do entirely. Actually robot cleaners are very popular right now. So, the future is for robotics, but it will take a few decades.

Space Exploration

Mankind always dreamed of overcoming gravitation and reaching other planets. But it was only in the 1960ies that this dream was to become reality.

On the 12th of April 1961 the spaceship "Vostok" was launched into space with a man on board and after orbiting our planet successfully returned to the Earth. The first man to overcome gravitation and orbit the Earth was Yuri Gagarin. This day went down in history of mankind as an outstanding achievement, opening the space era.

In the course of space exploration there have been lots of achievements of world science and technology. This period saw the launching of many earth satellites, numerous space laboratories. Among the achievements we may enumerate the landing of automatic stations on the Moon, the flights of space laboratories towards the Venus and Mars.

Mars planet alll

Mars

The fourth planet from the sun has always captivated our imagination, and while scientists haven't proven there's any life, not even the microscopic variety, the dusty red planet still commands our attention (and a lot of space missions).

The surface of Mars is more interesting than most planets. Like Mercury, Venus and Earth, Mars is mostly rock and metal.
Mountains and craters scar the rugged terrain. The dust, an iron oxide, gives the planet its reddish cast.

Mars was most likely warm and wet about 3.7 billion years ago. But as the planet cooled, the water froze.
Remnants exist as ice caps at the poles. A recent image of Mars taken by the Hubble Space Telescope shows evidence of water-bearing minerals in large amounts, and scientists say the deposits may provide clues to the planet's water-rich background.
It has not yet been proven that there is life on Mars.

A NASA announcement in 1996 about microscopic life found in a meteorite has failed to convince skeptics, and the search continues. The apparent odd motion of Mars as seen from Earth stumped scientists for centuries, finally leading in the early 1600's to the notion that planets orbited the sun in an elliptical pattern. Percival Lowell, an amateur astronomer who studied Mars into the early 1900s, thought he saw canals that must have been dug by inhabitants. Upon closer examination with modern telescopes and planetary probes, they turned out to be optical illusions.

The Council of Europe

  1. Not long ago Russia became a member of the Council of Europe.
  2. And what does the term "The Council of Europe" mean?
For over 50 years the Council of Europe has been working to build a Europe United on the basis of freedom and democracy, human rights and the rule of law. The Council was set up by ten west European states. Since then the European landscape has changed, and today the great majority of European countries belong to go to the Organization.

How the Council of Europe works. The Committee of Ministers comprises the foreign ministers of the 34 members states, it meets twice a year in ordinary session and may also held special or informal meetings. The Minister's Deputies meet every month. The Committee of Ministers also serves as a permanent forum of discuss European co-operation and common political problems.
The Parliamentary Assembly comprises 239 representatives.

The Parliamentary Assembly meets in full session four times a year. By debating problems of modern society and making recommendations to the Committee of Ministers, it is the starting point for many of the Council of Europe's activities. The Parliamentary Assembly has created a "special guest" scheme to welcome representatives of non-member states from central and eastern Europe and designed to prepare them for full membership of the Organization.
The Council works to harmonize policies and adopt common standards practices in member states. It operates by bringing, at different levels, parliamentarias, ministers, government experts, local and regional representatives, youth associations and INGOs (international non-governmental organizations) to pool their knowledge and experience.

There have been adopted over 155 European conventions. Subjects range from the protection of computerized data, violence at sporting events and nature conservation, to mass media, cultural co-operation and the prevention of torture. The activities carried out in the Council of Europe affect all our lives. What are European symbols. The European Flag was chosen by the Council of Europe in 1955. It is composed of a circle of 12 gold stars on a blue black ground. The number of stars is invariable, 12 begin the symbol of perfection.

The European Anthem, adopted by the Council of Europe in 1972, is a musical arrangement by Herbert von Karajam of the Prelude to the Ode to Joy from Beethoven 9th Symphony.
Europe Day, which has been celebrated since 1964 on 5 May, aims to involve Europe's citizens more fully in the process of European unification.

Tardar Sauce (born April 4, 2012), better known by her Internet moniker "Grumpy Cat", is a cat and Internet celebrity known for her grumpy facial expression.[1][2][3][4]

Her owner Tabatha Bundesen says that her permanently grumpy-looking face is due to feline dwarfism.[5][1][6] Grumpy Cat's popularity originated from a picture posted to the social news website Reddit by Bundesen's brother Bryan on September 22, 2012.[1][7][8] It was made into an image macro with grumpy captions. As of July 14, 2014, "The Official Grumpy Cat" on Facebook has over 6 million "likes".[9] Grumpy Cat was featured on the front page of The Wall Street Journal on May 30, 2013 and on the cover of New York magazine on October 7, 2013.[10][4][11]

Background[edit]

The Bundesens say that Tardar Sauce's face appears grumpy because of feline dwarfism and an under bite.[1][6][12] She and her brother Pokey were born to normal parents with "a flat face, bubble eyes, and a short tail".[12] Tardar Sauce is undersized and has hind legs that "are a bit different".[1][6] Ironically, although she has a grumpy expression on her face and called "Grumpy Cat", Tardar Sauce is calm and "actually really nice," whereas Pokey has a grumpy personality.[13][14]

"I ran once...it was horrible". A sign paying homage to Grumpy Cat at the Austin Marathon.

According to the Bundesens, Tardar Sauce is a normal cat "99% of the time".[1][6][15] Photo sessions are only once a week, and handling by strangers is limited.[1]At SXSW Tardar Sauce made limited two-hour appearances each day as Grumpy Cat.[14]

Management[edit]

Ben Lashes is Grumpy Cat's manager who also represents Keyboard Cat and Nyan Cat.[13][16] Bundesen took a leave of absence from her day job at Red Lobster to manage Grumpy Cat's schedule and Bryan manages her website, Facebook, YouTube and Twitter.[4][10][15][7]

According to the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office database, "Grumpy Cat Limited" applied to trademark "Grumpy Cat" and an image of her at the end of January 2013.[17] Licensed merchandise like t-shirts and mugs are advertised on the website and sold at Hot Topic.[1][13] Plush toys are under development.[13] Bryan said that by March 2013 they earned "mid-five figures"[7] and "low-six-figure" by May 2013.[10] The corporation has an estimated value of $1 million.[4] Grenade Beverage LLCmakes Grumpy Cat "Grumppuccino" iced coffee beverages.[10][18][19]

Recognition[edit]

MSNBC named Grumpy Cat 2012's most influential cat.[20] Grumpy Cat won BuzzFeed's Meme of the Year Award at the 2013 Webby Awards.[21][22] Grumpy Cat won first prize Golden Kitty at the second annual Internet Cat Video Film Festival.[23][24] Grumpy Cat won a Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2013 Friskies.[25]

Book and calendar[edit]

The official Grumpy Cat book was published on July 23, 2013 by Chronicle Books.[10] The book is available in both print and digital formats from retailers worldwide. It debuted at #8 Hardcover Nonfiction onPublishers Weekly'best seller list and #7 on the New York Times Best Seller List.[26][27]

Additionally, Chronicle Books published The Grumpy Cat 2014 Wall Calendar on July 23, 2013.[28]

More recently, there was another Grumpy Cat book called The Grumpy Guide to Life.

Role of Women in Society

The ongoing changes in social, political and economic spheres of the country entail not only the raise of women’s role in society, in addition they are accompanied by breaking of stereotypes to treat human beings by sex that had been shaping through decades. Free economic relations and democratization of all spheres of life create the basis for eventual equal social rights for any human being regardless of sex, for both men and women.

From a legal point of view, a man and a woman in Russia are equal. However, in practice, there are no real mechanisms of women’s rights fulfillment as well as for their active participation in social life.

Such questions as women and their place in the society, their political and social activity as well as enlightening of those problems in mass media; questions of creation of informational data-base as well as maternity and childhood cannot be effectively solved by governmental bodies, especially in the situation of economic crisis.

That is why it is important today to assist the creation of such mechanisms through the activation of women’s public organizations. And non-governmental charity organizations become a single source for support of such projects. Housework, chores and raising children are generally considered to belong to a woman's domain. Despite the fact that birthrates in the country have been falling, children are obstacles in the labor market. It is understandable that women decide to defer having children later or do not have children at all. Along with that, there is a lack of knowledge about modern contraception and a correspondingly large number of abortions. The frequency of abortions in Russia is one of the highest in the world.

Women comprise 54 percent of contemporary Russian society. However, the number of women taking part in the country's political, economic and civic life shows that women are restricted in the spheres of politics and government. Women's salaries are on average lower than men's, and women are likewise far more likely to fall victim to violence and unemployment. According to United Nations Gender Organization data, 67 percent of those unemployed in Russia are women. A lack of state financing in social programs has caused further tightening in the labor market, particularly for women. Female unemployment is rising at a catastrophically high rate. Women have less access to retraining programs than men, while women entrepreneurs are a rarity.
